We position blackness as a curatorial principle we start from and work toward. The liquid blackness project is proud to support and feature creative and scholarly work that explores “liquidity” as a methodology for teaching, thinking, and sharing.

Aesthetics Appropriate to Conditions: A Collaboration between Digital Cinematography and Theories of Black Filmmaking – A collaborative project created by Prof. Aggie Ebrahimi Bazaz and Dr. Alessandra Raengo that merges film theory and practice to explore the relationship between politics, ethics, and aesthetics. 

 

liquid blackness Empyre Discussion - This “twine” gathers a streamlined version of a conversation that occurred over the month of April 2016 on the listserv –empyre- soft_skinned_space a global community of new media artists, curators, theorists, producers, who participate in monthly thematic discussions via an email listserv.

Public Projects

AMPLIFY - A showcase and reflective discussion of Georgia State University School of Film, Media, and Theater students' creative videos and writings focused on fostering a critical dialogue about moving images a tool for advocacy, protest, reflection, healing, and community-building. 

Music Video as Black Art is a pathway into the liquid blackness archive highlighting the role of music in contemporary black filmmaking practices that span across media (filmmaking, video, and installation art) and venues (from art galleries to digital platforms). It is an invitation to explore the work of Black filmmakers whose practice has been shaped by black musical traditions and inspired by musicians’ achievements.

Atonal Symphonies - An informal series of conversations between artists and scholars that contributed to issues of the liquid blackness: journal of aesthetics and black studies to collectively reflect on the process of writing and editing experimental and un-disciplined work.
