Call for Volunteers

As liquid blackness continues to grow, we are looking for those in our communities that wish to participate in and support our work studying and making accessible black art and artists.

Volunteers would support our event programming and backend research development. Specifically, we are looking for those with skills and interest in the following areas:

  • Event Recording:

Volunteers with experience in videography, sound, and photography to record and archive our events (e.g., artist screenings and talks, masterclasses, and social and organizational gatherings). Experience specifically with interview-based events is preferred but not required. You will be supervised by our Creative Fellow, djones.

This is an in-person volunteer position.

  • Event Support:

We seek volunteers that wish to support the liquid blackness team in making sure our events run smoothly. Volunteers will help set up the event spaces as well as collect attendee information, ticketing, and any questionnaires. This may also include supporting any day-of needs for the artists. Additionally, this position will assist in PR for the event through researching new avenues of advertisement, helping produce new social media materials, and supporting on-the-ground marketing. You will be supervised by our Project Manager, Corey Couch.

This is primarily an in-person volunteer position.

  • Research Support:

If you have training in academic research, we are seeking volunteers to support developing our artist and research pages for our website dedicated to each event. This work will include collecting background information for each artist we study (biography, filmography, and bibliography, along with any interviews with them and reviews of their work), as well as, helping proofread and edit those pages, along with the overall intellectual work and flow of liquid blackness’s website. You will be supervised by our Research Fellow, Daren Fowler.

This can be a virtual position.

All volunteers will receive a certificate acknowledging their contributions to our events and research.
