LIQUID BLACKNESS LENDS SUPPORT FOR THE JGPACA

Post was originally published on August 1, 2017.

liquid blackness would like to lend its voice in encouraging the fundraising efforts for the June Givanni Pan African Cinema Archive (JGPACA). Through a crowdfunding campaign, the JGPACA seeks to raise money in order to make June Givanni’s collection of 10,000 objects and documents of Pan African cinema available as an online archive for public research. The accessibility of archival films and documents such as those collected by June Givanni are crucial to ongoing research on black cinema. Without access to filmmaker Larry Clark’s private archival papers, liquid blackness’ Passing Through project, for example, would not have been possible, and we remain grateful to Clark for making these resources available to us.

Similarly, the funding of the JGPACA will allow for future research projects, publications, public screenings, et cetera, and encourage the continued research of this crucial history.
