We make it available to the public in a new form, hoping that it will function as yet another mode of digital “black study” – a concept we have taken from Stefano Harney and Fred Moten’s The Undercommons: Fugitive Planning & Black Study, and adapted to our specific circumstances throughout a variety of projects featured in this website. We think of digital black study as a process of “thinking along” or “thinking-with-others” that is also a form of experimentation with different types of sociality. Hardly encouraged in institutional settings, “black study” is invested in its own process and mode of unfolding above and beyond any predictable or measurable outcome. In other words, when the liquid blackness research group undertakes a digital “black study,” it is interested in issues of aesthetics and forms of the objects of study but also in the forms of creative interaction that might occur in the act of studying itself.
This is the reason we invite commentary, interaction, and annotation to the existing conversation.

We have several goals in mind:
Not only the idea of practicing a form of black study in a digital space, but also the hope that some of these threads can provide helpful pedagogical tools in the undergraduate classroom, the graduate seminar, or perhaps scholarly research about new ways of thinking about the interplay between blackness and aesthetics, form and politics, identity and form.
